Its remarkable when a Taco stand with the craziest hours on earth is a James Beard award winner, but Yucas on Hillhurst is just that. Known for there amazing pork tacos, tortas, and burritos, this place is a must-visit. Normally Beard awards are only given to fancy dining establishments, but Yucas is truly a shack institution, located on Hillhurst Ave. in Los Feliz. American Pride...

Interesting article over at VALET magazine, making a great case for buying heritage American made products. Heres an exerpt- " In Japan, consumers want English things to be from England, French things to be from France and American things to be made in America. It's a quality that I believe is derived from a devotion to authenticity. Portland, Oregan-based Danner is a perfect example of the type of company the Japanese love to support. Danner, which is often over-looked by the newly minted throngs of Red Wing admirers, has been making quality boots in America since the early 1930s. It's about time we as Americans hold companies that shun domestic manufacturing to as high of standards as our Japanese friends."

Inspiration....

Coming out of Minnesota in the early eighties as the front man for The Replacements, Paul Westerberg has influenced most singer-songwriters who have followed him. From his early punk rock days to his latest basement recordings, the master lyricist still continues to be one of the only voices of truth in music today. Check him out HERE....

Timeless...

The Eames House (also known as Case Study House# 8) is a landmark of mid-20th century modern design located at 203 North Chautauqua Boulevard in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles. It was constructed in 1949 by husband-and-wife modern pioneers Charlesand Ray Eames, to serve as their home and studio. Unusually for such an avant-garde design, the Eames publicized the house as a thoroughly lived-in, usable, and well-loved home.See more amazing design HERE....

Before The Rain. Set against a background of political turbulence in Macedonia and contemporary London, three love stories intertwine to create a powerful portrait of modern Europe.
When a mysterious incident in the fabled Macedonian mountains blows out of proportion, it threatens to start a civil war, and brings together a silent young monk, a London picture editor, and a disillusioned war photographer in a tragic tale of fated lovers. Told in three parts, and linked by characters and events, "Before the Rain" explores the uncompromising nature of war as it ravages the lives of unsuspecting, and forces the innocent to take sides. Change...In more ways than one...

Many things are changing this week, and as one president exits and another enters, we can take this day to remember the man that worked tirelessly to enact change for all of us. Check out the video below with cool foreign subtitles, and take some time to get some more information HERE. Also, we are undergoing some more change here at the DSC. ICON...

Gram Parsons. Singer, songwriter, guitarist Parsons was a member of the International Submarine Band, The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers. He was later a solo artist who recorded and performed duets with Emmylou Harris. Parsons died of a drug overdose at the age of 26 in a hotel room in the California desert. Since his death, the birth of 1970s rock/country and the early 1990s alternative country movement have been attributed to his influential songwriting. In 2004, The magazine Rolling Stone ranked him #87 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Please do yourself a favor and dig into his entire catalog, you wont be dissapointed.

Timeless Style...

I remember saving and saving for my first quality watch. That first meager purchase has lead to a life-long love of  the time and mechanics that go into an amazing watch. From my grandfathers WWII-issued pocket watch, to my new Nixons, nothing can trump a quality timepiece. What's on your wrist?...

On the Shelf...

It took me awhile to start really being able to appreciate poetry, and the works of Charles Bukowski have been a great companion to me for many years now. Being able to turn the seedy underside of life in Los Angeles into beautiful and well thought out verses was his amazing gift. No one else could make an afternoon walking down Western Ave. seem so nice.Pick up Love Is A Dog From Hell....

ICONS...

Joe Strummer was the co-founder, lyricist, rhythm guitarist and lead singer of the English punk rock band The Clash.Later with The Mescaleros, Strummer branched out as a world-music influenced solo artist that maintained the energy and spirit of his early work. A true hero....."This is my Indian summer...I learnt that fame is an illusion & everything about it is just a joke. I'm far more dangerous now, because I don't care at all."

Hungry...

I don't make it to the west side much, but when I do, Johnnie's pastrami is the place I always stop at. Located right on Sepulveda and Washington Place, this place has been a Los Angeles institution since 1952. I'm pretty sure some of the staff have been here that long as well....So old school that they have no website, so check out some reviews HERE

2009...

Wishing everyone a safe and happy 2009, from everyone here at DIVIDE...
